Project management and goals

Project leader (Who's going to be the project leader?):

Expert specialists (e.g. collate all photos, text, translations) I would rather suggest one specialist per section (see my section suggestions below) [Cata Pimiento].
  • Specialist 1

  • Specialist 3

  • Specialist 4

  • Specialist 5

  • Specialist 6

Goals for each week, ending with the presentation on 6 Dec.
  • September 27
    • Choose team leader and specialists [Cata Pimiento]
    • Define target audience [Cata Pimiento]
    • Select the sections we are actually going to do:
      • I suggest that for the class project do no more than 5 sections in both english and spanish. I sugest the following main sections: Goals and Project Summary; Current Research (including publications); Current Participants; Prospective Students and Countries involved. In addition, I think we could start our social network pages like a blog and a facebook page linked to tweeter. [Cata Pimiento].
    • Plan every week [Cata Pimiento].
  • October 4

  • October 11
    • NO CLASS
  • October 18

  • October 25

  • November 1

  • November 8

  • November 15

  • November 22

  • November 29

  • December 6

Don’t try to do everything. Do fewer things well rather than too many things.
Establish priorities for what must be in the first version; then other things that could be added later if you run out of time.
Possible Priorities
  • Ability to toggle back and forth between English/Spanish consistently from the upper right hand corner
  • Attract prospective students about the research and educational projects available for participation. They need to understand that there are exciting project yet to be done on this PIRE.
  • Highlight “new discoveries”
  • Engaging and exciting home page
  • Let the visitor share in the excitement of discovery.
  • Use a combination of photos and “videos.” I suggest that you import the YouTube video of Dana Ehret talking about Panama fossil shark nurseries (the one that Sarah mentioned).
  • The purpose of the PCP PIRE is research and education. Make sure that the themes (and target audiences) follow form these strands.
  • Possibly have some Inquiry-based parts of the site (but not all). But, don’t make it too cute.
  • I’d like the web site to be interactive where a visitor could ask questions or make comments, or suggestions, etc. This will require, however, more of a commitment to active management (i.e., responding to inquiries).
  • I’d ultimately like an “upcoming events” page, but like the interactivity above, this would require active management to update this page.
